Background of the Study
The healthcare startup sector in Nigeria has been growing steadily, with new private hospitals aiming to fill the gap in healthcare service provision across the country. In Zamfara State, healthcare startups play a crucial role in providing healthcare services, particularly in rural areas where government hospitals are scarce or underfunded. However, these healthcare startups face numerous financial challenges that hinder their operations and expansion. The lack of adequate financial resources is often the primary reason for the failure of many healthcare startups in Nigeria.

The financial challenges include high startup capital costs, limited access to loans or grants, the rising costs of healthcare equipment, and difficulties in maintaining a sustainable revenue model (Adeyemi et al., 2023). Furthermore, the Nigerian healthcare financing landscape is complex, with limited government support for private healthcare ventures, especially in underserved areas like Zamfara State. Given the vital role of private hospitals in improving healthcare access and quality, it is crucial to understand the financial obstacles these startups face and the strategies they use to overcome them. This study aims to explore the financial challenges encountered by healthcare startups in Zamfara State and to offer recommendations for improving their financial sustainability.

Statement of the Problem
Healthcare startups in Zamfara State face significant financial challenges that hinder their growth and sustainability. These challenges include a lack of funding, inadequate financial management practices, and limited support from the government and financial institutions. As a result, many healthcare startups struggle to offer consistent and high-quality services, leading to a reduction in healthcare coverage for the local population. Despite the essential role these startups play in providing accessible healthcare, there is limited research on the financial constraints they face and how these challenges affect their performance. This study seeks to investigate the financial challenges of healthcare startups in Zamfara State and explore strategies for overcoming these obstacles.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on private healthcare startups in Zamfara State. It will investigate the financial challenges they face and their impact on the provision of healthcare services. A limitation of this study is the potential difficulty in obtaining data from healthcare startups that are unwilling to disclose sensitive financial information. Additionally, the findings may not be applicable to other states with different healthcare and economic contexts.
